Baby door bouncers are wonderful pieces of equipment that serve the needs of both the baby and the parent. The baby gets lots of excellent fun while at the same time exercising and the parent gets a bit of time in the knowledge their baby is safe and enjoying themselves.
A baby bouncer is essentially a fabric seat or saddle that has an elasticated strap that is attached to the top frame of a door. There are some models on the market that are freestanding but but ones that attach to a door are the most popular.

Bouncers are designed to be used by babies only when they can support the weight of their own heads. Babies are different but usually this is between 3 and 5 months, some babies learn to hold their head earlier than that, so let your baby be your guide and purchase when you think it is safe and right for them.
You should stop using the door bouncer when your baby is able to walk or has the reached maximum safe weight. The maximum weight for a bouncer differs from manufacturer to manufacturer and will be displayed on the product but a general guideline is usually 12kg.
It is recommended that the babies should not spend more than 15-20 minutes each session using the door bouncer because for any time longer than this they can get tired and also become bored although you will find some babies that will want to stay in there a lot longer than 20 minutes and some that get bored of it in less than 15 minutes.
There are a few features to look for when buying a door bouncer and the most important one is safety. The safety of your precious little one is of the utmost importance and therefore you should only purchase baby door bouncers that comply with the current British Safety Standards BS EN 14036:2003 or BS EN 14039:2006. If you are worried about your baby bumping into other objects there are models that come with rings made of plastic or other fabrics to cushion the baby.
You should also look for models that are easy to clean. Some have seats and harnesses that are machine washable. You might not think this is important but trust me it is, our little one was sick a few times on his in the early days when he was smaller and it was just so easy to put the saddle in the washing machine and wipe the rest with a cloth.
One criticism that is aimed at bouncers is that quite a few people find it a bit difficult to get the baby in and out but in reality all is needed is a little practice and you will get the hang of it. It might also be easier to do it with two people in the beginning.
Baby door bouncers are fantastic as they provide exercise and fun for babies at that age when they are not able to quite sit up but spend more time awake than sleep and need some stimulation. You as a parent also benefit because you get a bit of free time to relax or do some chores and at the same time have the baby in your sight safe and having fun.
